What services does Maier Bloodstock provide?

Kenneth provides bloodstock and consulting services to new and existing owners. This includes purchasing horses at auction, negotiating private sales, recommending or vetting trainers to prepare your young horses on the farm and at the racetrack, advising on the form of business to set up and proper accounting, modeling solutions to business problems and general business and racing assistance.

Can I Do This On My Own?

It took Kenneth almost ten years to surround himself with the right trainers and gain the appropriate knowledge to be a successful horse owner. There are many pitfalls and unprofessional people in the horse business. Kenneth can help you avoid many of the mistakes and losses he endured on his way to becoming a successful owner.

How does Maier Bloodstock go about selecting the horses that you purchase for your clients?

Ken uses a combination of pedigree, conformation analysis, and video study to purchase racehorses. The pedigree analysis looks a nicking patterns and sire tendencies. In addition, the horse must have reasonable conformation and an adequate way of going to handle the rigors of training and racing.

How do I get started?

Are there contracts to sign?

There are no contracts to sign for consulting services. However, before Maier Bloodstock can represent you at auction, you must complete a Buyers Authorized Agent Form. A sample can be viewed by clicking the link.

Do I have to pay for my auction purchases immediately?

No. You typically have 15 days after the auction to pay for your purchases, provided you obtained credit before the sale. If you do not obtain credit, payment must be made within 30 minutes of the fall of the hammer.

Are there other expenses incurred when buying at auction?

Yes. Maier Bloodstock suggests that each horse that we bid on has a throat and x-ray inspection completed by a competent veterinarian. This service costs approximately $160 per horse, regardless of whether the horse is purchased or not. This is for your protection.
